President's message for World Population Day 2014

Dear Colleagues

Each year the occasion of World Population Day (11 July 2014) offers an opportunity for reminding local communities of the global issues arising from the size and rate of growth of the human population. Of course the date itself is not the main point of the observation, and many UN and national agencies spread the celebrations over weeks or even months.

Across Asia there have been many activities, and I suspect that many of you have held observances in the form of seminars, workshops and conferences. Congratulations to all of you who have made such plans. Please keep the APA Secretariat informed of your local activities so they can put news up on the website and share your experiences across the membership.

Of course the work of population professionals to clarify understanding of the many dimensions of demographic issues is not confined to one day. For APA this is a 24/7 concern. We hope you will encourage your colleagues to become active members of APA, and particularly that you will remind them to submit abstracts soon for the Third APA Population Conference to be held in Kuala Lumpur next year.

Sincerely,
