Call for papers for special issue of Australian Geographer in memory of Graeme Hugo

Special issue of Australian Geographer

Human geographies for the public good: in memory of Professor Graeme John Hugo (AO)

Special Issue Editors: Dr Natascha Klocker and Dr Olivia Dun Australian Centre for Cultural Environmental Research, University of Wollongong

In an obituary published in Australian Geographer (Volume 46, Issue 2), Professor John Connell observed that Graeme Hugo was so widely respected because his impressive scholarly contributions: 'were underpinned by a quiet but persuasive concern for social justice. Beyond the multiple intellectual outputs that grace some of the finest global journals...Graeme was an activist, concerned with the development of equitable migration policies and the welfare and rights of migrants and refugees. He was no mere scholar - quietly piling up papers and books...but was committed to developing appropriate population and development policies...'

In this Special Issue of Australian Geographer, we invite contributions from geographers whose own empirical work seeks to tangibly contribute to the public good. In keeping with the remit of Australian Geographer (and Graeme's own work), articles should focus on Australia and/or its region (Asia-Pacific).

While we welcome contributions related to Graeme's own fields of expertise (migration, population and development), this Special Issue is open to a diverse range of topics. In honour of Graeme, our priority is to foreground geographical research that makes a tangible contribution to social justice, broadly conceived.
