The Asian Population Association's [APA] Scientific Committee on Fertility Preferences invites you to submit papers to a special satellite session held on July 27th 2015 alongside the APA Conference in Kuala Lumpur.
The objective of this satellite session is to produce a series of national reports concerning the 'state-of-the-art' of research on fertility preferences in countries across Asia.
As such, we invite submissions of country-level reports. Rather than individual studies of particular surveys, these reports should be overviews of the current level if understanding regarding fertility preferences in your country of study. They should contribute to a 'baseline' understanding of fertility preferences in the continent and should be considered as similar to a 'handbook' or 'review' type chapter. Topic covered should include available data (national, and regional surveys and their accessibility); a review of previous studies; empirical data regarding fertility preferences (micro- and macro- level, quantitative and qualitative); avenues for future research. As appropriate, issues relating to the unmet need for contraception, policy space for family policy interventions and so on should be addressed, as well as any other special national- or region-specific issue.
The reports are envisaged to be around 5,000 words, will be written in English and should include a comprehensive bibliography. We anticipate that an overview of these reports will be presented in KL in July. We are in advanced negotiations with a leading international publisher to produce an edited volume of these reports.
At the moment, we are looking for authors who are able to commit to (a) producing a draft country-level report by July 2015 with a final copy by October 2015; (b) present an overview of their findings at the special session at the APA Conference in July 2015. We may able to provide some extremely limited financial assistance to cover the extra costs of attending the workshop in KL – but note that participants are responsible for covering their own expenses to attend the conference. This limited assistance will be allocated on a needs-driven basis.
