APA Scientific Group 2
"Responsible Use of Demographic Data in Traditional and AI-Driven Methods"
Workshop | Thursday, 20 August 2026 | Online via Zoom
Register NowThis workshop will explore the future of population and health surveys in the context of a rapidly changing global funding environment. Recent shifts in international development assistance have created significant uncertainty for many long-standing household survey programs, prompting renewed discussion about how population and health data will be financed, collected, disseminated, and sustained in the years ahead. The shift reflects growing maturity and self-reliance in statistical infrastructures and presents a timely opportunity to reconsider how population data are collected, produced, and disseminated particularly in the Asian countries.
This workshop is organized by APA Scientific Group 2: Responsible Use of Demographic Data in Traditional and AI-Driven Methods, in collaboration with the UN ISWGHS Task Force on Sustainable Demographic and Health Statistics through Surveys and IPUMS.
It will begin with presentations from the ISWGHS Task Force discussing ongoing efforts to strengthen the sustainability, quality, and relevance of survey-based data systems, highlighting the revision of the United Nations Handbooks on Household Surveys.
A presentation from IPUMS will then explore the changing landscape of population and health data dissemination. This segment will focus on the opportunities and challenges for data access, harmonization, global comparability, and long-term preservation in an era increasingly characterized by country-initiated and country-owned surveys.
The workshop will conclude with an interactive discussion among APA members. As primary users of demographic and health survey data, APA members are uniquely positioned to identify emerging research needs and provide diverse perspectives on the emerging concerns, priorities, and innovations that should shape the future of population and health data collection, dissemination, and use in Asia.
Please join us for cutting-edge insights and an engaging live discussion.
